NIPIGON — A spring storm will likely move into the east of Thunder Bay and along the North Shore with significant snowfall.

Environment Canada expects the snow to come in two bursts with a series of low-pressure systems.

The first round of snow is predicted to come late Thursday into Saturday morning and the second round on Sunday.

These bursts of snowfall are expected to bring a total of 10 to 20 cm of snow along most of the North Shore and the southern half of Lake Nipigon. Wawa and areas to the east could see more, between 15 to 25 cm, as well as an excess of 25 cm over some areas.

The storm is predicted to stay south of the Greenstone area.

While in the region, the heavy snow can cause reduced visibility and may result in difficult travel conditions and possible road closures.

Environment Canada said there remains uncertainty with the swath of heaviest snow, especially for the first snowfall.

It encourages residents to continue to monitor alerts and forecasts as warnings will likely be issued as the storm draws nearer.
