FORT FRANCES — The District of Rainy River Services Board (DRRSB) has announced the re-election of Deborah Ewald as chair and Andrew Hallikas as vice chair by acclamation during the first board meeting on Jan. 16.

The members of the DRRSB board of directors, consisting of 13 members, run for a four-year term.

Of these members, the municipal councils have appointed 10 and qualified electors of the Territory Without Municipal Organization have selected three.

Ewald is mayor of Rainy River and first took on the role of the organization’s chair in 2019.

“I am deeply grateful to my fellow board members for re-electing me as chair of the District of Rainy River Services Board,” said Ewald.

“This role is both a privilege and a responsibility and I remain committed to working collaboratively to advance our shared priorities and ensure our residents receive the services they rely on.”

The DRRSB delivers Children’s Services, Ontario Works, Housing and Homelessness and Paramedic Services within the Rainy River District.

Hallikas has been the vice chair of the board since 2020 and represents Fort Frances.

He returned from an month-long leave of absence last year in November.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve as vice chair and appreciate the trust placed in me by the board,” said Hallikas.

“I am eager to continue supporting the chair, our board and Rainy River District Services as we work together to address challenges and opportunities in our district, always with a focus on the well-being of our communities.”

The DRRSB stated that it remains committed to delivering quality services with accountability and respect to meet the district’s needs.
