Invites applications for the position of: Child and Youth Support Worker
Reporting to the Director of Programs and Staff, the Child and Youth Support Worker supports the mother’s parental role during her stay at Women In Crisis and provides childcare for non-residential clients as needed during counselling sessions or crisis walk-in sessions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
• Collaborate with the Crisis Counsellors in providing services for children and youth, to maintain excellent communication regarding issues and/or concerns related to the children
• Provide children and youth the opportunity to talk, play games, do arts and crafts, read, play and to have quiet time
• Explain and model positive parenting techniques
• Support mothers to manage issues of safety around school attendance, custody, and visitations
• Provide childcare while mothers attend appointments, discuss situations with a counsellor, and as the need arises
• Provide individual and group support for both mother and child/youth on the effects of abuse on children/youth according to age
• Maintain accurate records and documentation as required

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Diploma in Child and Youth Care and member in good standing with OACYC, or acceptable equivalent
• A comprehensive understanding of the effects of abuse and violence on children and youth
• Effective written and verbal communication, able to demonstrate excellent judgement and strength in areas of crisis intervention, time management and teamwork
• Personal skills in terms of being a good listener, flexible, able to demonstrate patience, open, honest, supportive, calm and a problem solver
• Knowledge of the community and its resources
• Knowledge, understanding of, and commitment to ARAO and feminist work is essential
• Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and other relevant legislation
• Proficiency in French is an asset
• Must provide a clear vulnerable sector police records check
• Current First Aid/CPR an asset

JOB PARAMETERS:
Staff coverage for the Child Support Worker Program is between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., including weekends. A flexible schedule is divided between two (2) Child Support Workers, with each working thirty-six (36) hours a week plus one unpaid hour each day for lunch.
