Our family sadly announces the death of our father William Edward (Bill) Adduono on Monday, July 31, 2023, at the age of 87 at Hogarth Riverview Manor. Bill was born on February 13, 1936, in Fort William to Helen and Jerry Adduono. He grew up in the East End of Thunder Bay along with his brothers Sonny, Herbie and Raymond.
Dad began his longtime employment at Mahon Electric Company at 18 years of age, retiring at the age of 57 as the Office Manager and Accountant. He spent much of his life playing sports including hockey, baseball, fastball, handball at the “Y” (most times on his lunch hour), bowling and downhill skiing. For many years he volunteered his time with Fort William Minor Hockey league, as a coach and later as a referee. His true passion was golf, and as a long-time member of Chapples Golf Club, he was a founding member of the Saturday Morning Golf Group. Later on, when he was not golfing, Dad spent countless hours volunteering his time rolling meatballs, making gnocchi or working spaghetti dinners at the DaVinci Centre and the Slovak Legion.
On May 28, 1959, Dad married our mother, Joan Cameron with whom he shared 57 years of marriage until her death on July 28, 2018. In the spring of 1966, they built their house on Agate Bay in which they spent 47 wonderful years entertaining family and friends in their backyard pool. Known as Papa to his grandchildren, Dad enjoyed many an afternoon watching his grandkids swim for hours in the pool.
When Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s they made the difficult decision to sell their home and move into a condo. From this time forward, Dad was her dedicated caregiver until she was moved into Long-term care. In May 2017, Dad moved into Sister Leila Greco apartments and with Mom in Hogarth, they were right next door. Many a time they could be seen sitting together in the garden at Hogarth, just being together. After five years of residing at Sister Leila Greco, and due to declining health and mobility issues, Dad moved into Hogarth in September of 2022. To Jenny and her entire staff, we are truly grateful for those years and the care provided. You know he loved living at Sister Leila Greco and told everyone it was the best place! When he moved into Hogarth- Spruce Grove, he was once again fortunate to be cared for by a warm and compassionate staff. We sincerely thank the entire staff of Spruce Grove for treating our father with compassion and respect and helping to make even the most difficult days a little easier.
Dad is survived by his daughters Geraldine (David) and Cheryl (Shawn), son Billy (Nancy), grandchildren Derek (Brooke), TJ (Mary), Andy (Lauren), Lauren, Rachel, Mitchell and Shaelyn, and great grandchildren, KK, Finn and Leo. His brother Raymond (Vicki) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dad is predeceased by our mother Joan, parents Helen and Jerry Adduono, brothers Sonny and Herb, sister- in law Joyce, in-laws Jenny and Ted Cameron and brother and sister-in-law Ron and Murv Cameron.
A funeral Mass to celebrate our father’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 11:00 A.M.at St. Dominic’s Church with reception to immediately follow in the church hall. Private interment will take place later that day.
