It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother (Mummu), great grandmother and sister, Sylvia Myllyaho, on Friday, March 14, 2025, with family by her side. Sylvia was born in Gorham Township on July 1, 1937 and lived all her life in the area. She began her working life at Eaton’s and then several years as a legal secretary at Seaman, Kajander, Blanchard, et al and Christie & Potestio until her retirement.

Sylvia married George in 1956 and together they raised three children. Sylvia is survived by their daughter Connie St. Cyr (Orville), son Michael Myllyaho (Lorena), daughter-in-law Carol Myllyaho; seven grandchildren: Tina Mines (Nathan), Amy Coccimiglio (Davy), Tia Pepin (Christian), Kristi Tarabocchia (Ryan), Darren Myllyaho, Michelle Kormano (Ari) and Dale Myllyaho (Sarah); thirteen great grandchildren: Kaija & Elli Myllyaho, Aiden & Marshall Mines, Ethan & Jackson Tarabocchia, Marleigh & Mikko Pepin, Emily & Sophia Coccimiglio, Nolan & Keaton Myllyaho and Torey Kormano; sister-in-law Eila Long, cousin/ “little sister” Seija Kajorinne, nieces and nephews in Canada and cousins in Canada and Finland. She was predeceased by her husband George Myllyaho, son Randy Myllyaho, parents Sara & Arne Tuomi and sister Minerva Kivisto.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Sylvia’s life at Italian Cultural Centre, 132 S. Algoma St., Thunder Bay on Monday, March 31, 2025 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. A private interment will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Our most sincere thanks go out to all the wonderful people at Southbridge Lakehead Manor – the caring staff that go above and beyond every day and Mom’s roommate & friend Sylvia P. You were like a second family to our Mom and made her last year of life so much better.

A mother holds her children’s hands for a while, their hearts forever.
