It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Romano Cernjul on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Toronto General Hospital. He is predeceased by his wife, Carol (Dell); parents, Ivanka & Petar Černjul; and siblings Josip (Bepi), Mario & Yolanda Černjul.

Romano will be forever loved by his children, Mark (Sarah) & Alana (Scott); adoring granddaughters, Jenna & Taylor Cernjul; and devoted sister & brother, Pijerina & Vince (Gen) Cernjul.  He will also be fondly remembered by sister-in-law, Sharon Dell-Fernandez, Bill (Isobel) Dell; nieces & nephews, Loredana Gluščić & Walter Černjul, Chelsea Marsonet & Kevin Cernjul, Natalia & Andrew Fernandez, Christopher & Ashley Dell; and families.

Born in Nedešćina (Istria), Croatia, Romano immigrated to Canada in 1966. He first lived and worked in Hamilton, with his brother Vince, before moving to Thunder Bay, where he met the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Carol. Romano was a hardworking, generous, fun-loving husband, father, brother, Nono, uncle and friend. He was known to many as the #1 fan at his childrens’ hockey games, dance performances, and any other activities that they, or his granddaughters, nieces & nephews participated in. He was a carpenter by trade with a wide skill-set, always willing to help out those in need. His work ethic was instilled in his children who always enjoyed learning from him. He was a great story-teller who loved to share his experiences and memories with those around him. In his spare time, Romano was an avid gardener, loved going for neighbourhood walks, and rarely missed a week at the Lotto counter.

Our heartfelt thanks to those who helped care for Romano over the years, especially Dr. D. Garon, family physician and the team of doctors and health care staff at Toronto General Hospital. Although we believe his time on earth ended too soon, we find peace and comfort knowing that he is reunited with his great love.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or Jumpstart are appreciated.

Romano will be remembered on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Sargent and Son Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 10-11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
