It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister Rita Fabiano (nee Tozzo), who passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Rita Fabiano was born in Serra San Bruno, Italy on March 7, 1953 to Giuseppina and Salvatore Tozzo. In November 1967,, Rita Fabiano arrived in Canada with her family seeking a better life, setting down roots in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It was here where she married the one true love of her life, Francesco Fabiano on January 10, 1983, to which they shared over 40 years of marriage. Together they had three beautiful children, Cosimo, Rosa, and Giuseppina. Rita Fabiano was very passionate about her family, which was exhibited both professionally and personally through the art of cooking. You could always find her in the kitchen creating outstanding Italian dishes, opening her heart and house to family and friends. She understood that a path to someone’s heart was through their stomach. When not in the kitchen it wasn’t hard to know where Rita was as she spent a great deal of time either tending to her garden, going for walks with friends, or trying her luck at the Casino.
She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband Francesco Fabiano, her three children Cosimo, Rosa, and Giuseppina, and three grandchildren Vincenzo Fabiano, and Thaddeus and Elias Torma, son-in-law Christopher Torma, Gina (sister), Sara (sister), and Antonio (brother), and many nieces and nephews. Rita Fabiano is predeceased by her parents Giuseppina and Salvatore Tozzo, and three siblings, Cosimo, Mario, and Nazzareno Tozzo, brothers-in-law Nazzareno Tassone and Giuseppe Fabiano, and father-in-law Francesco Rosina-Fabiano.
A special thanks we extend to the entire medical staff at both Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre and St. Joseph’s Care Group for all their efforts.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024 at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church with Rev. Luigi Filippini officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one prior to the service. As expressions of sympathy, memorials to Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Care would be appreciated.
