After a long and fulfilling life, an amazing man and father, Raymond William Squier Sr., who did everything his way has gone to be with the love of his life, Patricia. Ray, age 93 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
Ray was born on September 10, 1930 in Sandstone, Ontario to Homer and Caroline Squier.
For the past two months, Dad resided at Hogarth Riverview Manor. Prior to that, he was able to stay in his home with the support of a wonderful and caring PSW, Leeanna Laskowski, where he enjoyed his independence and freedom, being outdoors, feeding the wildlife or plowing his driveway with his dear Allis tractor.
Dad worked for Great Lakes Paper his entire career. Even though the name changed, he was a Great Laker through and through from being a raftsman, towing logs from Black Sturgeon to Lake Superior with the Joe D and the Chris M tugboats, to being the number 1 machine operator of the Koehring Harvester. Ray worked his last shift at Camp 517 in 1995, when he retired. His work ethic and dedication to the job provided him with letters of recommendation. His many co-workers became lifelong friends and coffee buddies at McDonalds weekly.
Raymond met Patricia Elliott at the Twin City Cafe, together creating a beautiful family and life residing in Hymers.
Dad and Mom made a lot of friends living in the country and he was saddened by the passing of Pat and Phil Sitch, Gwen and Jim Liddicoat, Ronnie VanNatto and his neighbourhood watch buddy, Leon Orza.
Dad spent his final days surrounded by his family who reminisced and laughed about the crazy things he did, that we look back on and smile as we share these stories with his grandchildren.
Raymond is survived by his children, Debbie, Linda (Frank), Dixie, Raymond Jr. And Patricia (Keith); grandchildren Shawna (Mitch), Tanya, Shannon (Don), Shaun (Louise), Cynthia (Dennis), Nathaniel (Maria), Marcus (Amber), Nick (Kelsey) and Brad (Brianna); great-grandchildren Marlie, Braeden, Sydney, Milan, Sivi, Scarlet, Brianna, Savanna, Marina, Sophia, Dennis Jr., Charles, Parker, Cameron, Jase, Hudson, Charlie, Gracie-Lynn as well as his great-great-grandchildren Hunter and Jaida. He is also survived by his brother, Clifford and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia; parents Homer and Caroline; siblings Jim, Wally, Reg, Ellard, Bob and his only sister, Margaret.
Funeral Services for the late Mr. Raymond Squier will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10:00am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Pastor Chris Fiorito. Interment will take place at a later date in Hymers Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 1 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in the Chapel.
Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Ray to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.
Perhaps they're not stars, but rather openings in heaven
where the love of our lost ones pours through
and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.
