The family of Paul Gravelle are deeply saddened by his passing at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital on August 21, 2024 at the age of 78. He was predeceased by his father, Guy, and mother, Gwen, of Sault Ste. Marie and grandsons Brendan and Avery. Paul had a deep love for his longtime partner, Marcia, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Left with huge sorrow are his children, Tammi (Dave), Jason (Michelle), Lindsay (Mike), Kristy, and stepdaughter Vanessa, grandchildren Samantha, AJ, Travis, Nathan, Micaela, Taylor, Dion, Destiny, Devyn, Jayce, Kassandra, Percy and Kyran as well as great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn are sisters, Jackie, Michelle, Jeannette and brother, Jean Guy, as well as his former spouse, Lori, brothers-in-law, Vic and Dan Laurin.
Paul was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where he had a variety of jobs. Early years were spent delivering prescriptions, caddying at his Uncle Cap’s golf course and playing golf. At 17, he joined the Queen’s Own Rifles in Calgary, but due to rheumatic fever, he had to leave the forces. His journey continued back to Sault Ste. Marie where he laid carpet, worked at Kmart setting up shoe departments in various cities. Upon return, he worked for Gauthier (his favourite grocery job) and on to St. Catherines doing some carpentry courses. Following that, he moved to Thunder Bay and worked at Safeway for 25 years. His final career was working for Bayshore Healthcare after completing a SSW course. Upon retirement, he travelled extensively with Marcia on cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, and trips to Florida, Portugal, and Arizona. Sault Ste. Marie was always his special place and returned each summer graciously hosted by his sister, Jackie and family.
He will forever be in our hearts as a man who loved his family, food and conversation.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be announced at a later date. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.
