Norman Gray, age 71 years, passed away at St. Joseph’s Care Group in palliative care on Friday, October 4th, 2024.

Norm, despite his ongoing physical disabilities, will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and friendly disposition. He was a great talker, often joking and deliberately mispronouncing words to get a laugh out of people, like calling a Tim Horton’s fruit explosion muffin “fruit of the loom” when he ordered.

Norm worked at Abitibi Paper Mill in various positions during his career, and loved riding on his motorcycle across Canada to visit his siblings before becoming too ill to travel. He was a talented piano player and keyboard musician in his teens, playing in bands at many dance venues throughout the community; a creative craftsman always tinkering and building things, and loved fishing and the outdoors.

“Normie” will be sadly missed by his sister Heather Whaley (Peter) of Bowmanville, ON and his brother Gordon Gray (Elaine) of MB, not to mention his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Norm was predeceased by his brothers Brian Gray of Thunder Bay, Lawrence Gray of Victoria, BC and sister Janice Mason (Bruce) of Thunder Bay.

Grateful thanks to the nurses and doctors at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and St. Joseph’s Care Group Palliative care unit for their exceptional, kind, and compassionate care. A special thank you to Daryl Walker for being a helpful friend and support to Norm during his last days.

A Memorial will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, donations to the Brain Injury Services of Northern Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
