Marjorie Violet Marshall

Posted

Marjorie Violet Marshall (nee Gordon) passed away peacefully on November 4th, 2024 at the grand age of 102 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She was born on March 31st, 1922 in Espanola, Ontario and was raised by her maternal grandparents with the help of her three beloved aunts.

She married Douglas Jackson Marshall in 1939 and together they raised 4 girls, Maureen, Vivian, Beverly and Debbie. Marjorie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a dear friend to so many, both in Sudbury and Thunder Bay. The Marshall home was the setting for countless celebrations and family gatherings - Marj was an amazing hostess, wonderful cook and the best baker. She often worked alongside her Aunt Millie and the two of them together could bake, sew, knit, preserve, grow and cook anything! Together for 67 years, Marj and Doug enjoyed square dancing, golf, travel, camping, card games and being with family.

In recalling her life, Marjorie took the lead of her grandmother, “to live by example; to be considerate and kind.” These qualities live on in her children and grandchildren. The life she led and the words she spoke, serve as wonderful reminders for all of us to live as she did - with love, honesty, dignity, faith and perseverance. Through life’s ups and downs, she always had a smile and never lost her delightful sense of humour. We will miss her dearly. She is survived by her three daughters, Maureen Allen (Bob), Beverly Perigord (Brian) and Debbie Shelswell; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Doug, her daughter Vivian and grandson Bret.

Our thanks to the wonderful staff at Pinewood and the long-time caregivers who lovingly cared for Marj over the past several years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choosing.
