It is with great sadness that the family of Lillian Elsie McCullough (nee Forslund) announce her peaceful passing on August 29, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Lil is survived by her two children Sandra McCullough (Robert McGregor) and Jim McCullough (Karen Hallinan). She is also survived by her grandchildren Steven McCullough (Shiresse)of Toronto, Sean McCullough (Katie) of Ottawa, Ryan McCullough (Justina) of Thunder Bay, and also left behind are her many great-grandchildren; Ayden, Emi, Max, Nolen and Juno, and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lil was born to Anshelm and Elsie Forslund on March 13, 1935 in Port Arthur, Ontario. Lil was educated at Prospect School, Hillcrest (Tec) Highschool and went on to study Real Estate and get her Salesperson Licence. Lil was a member of K-ETTES (Kinsman) and a devote Christian at Lakeview Presbyterian Church. Earlier in Lil’s career she was employed at Prince Arthur Hotel as a Front Desk Clerk, and Lovelady’s Camera Shop as a Picture Developer and later on, Derm her husband incorporated D.S McCullough Reality Ltd in 1977 and they worked along side one another to build their Real Estate business.
Lil enjoyed cooking, gardening, family get togethers, and pool parties at Phillips St., dancing and travelling. Lil and Derm enjoyed over 30 years of travelling to their special spot Vista del Sol in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico usually going for 6-8 weeks over the winter months. They enjoyed family and close friends visiting them while they were there.
Lil married the love of her life, Dermot, in 1953 and they shared 68 wonderful years together. Family meant everything to Lil and her world revolved around them.
Sadly, over the last few years, dementia took hold of her and she moved from her home on Balsam Street to a long-term care facility at South Bridge Roseview, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Lil was predeceased by her husband Dermot Samuel McCullough; her parents Anshelm & Elsie Forslund (Enroth), and siblings Helen (Bob) Vance, Gladys (Fred) Green, Ray (Joyce)Forslund, Don (Betty) Forslund, and Jean (John) Merchant.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the dedicated staff that cared for mom along her journey to her final resting place. Thanks to staff at Southbridge Roseview, TBRHSC, and special thank you to all the caring staff on the second floor Primrose Unit at Southbridge Roseview. Your patience, care, and compassion for mom and her family did not go unnoticed, especially during mom’s final days. We truly appreciate all the dedicated health care staff we encountered. Our gratitude to Lakeview Presbyterian Church and Northwest Funeral Alterative for their care with her celebration of life and funeral arrangements.
The celebration of life service for Lil McCullough and Dermot McCullough will be held at Lakeview Presbyterian Church, Thunder Bay, Ontario on September 30, 2023 at 11:00 am. Cremation has taken place. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, friends and family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lakeview Presbyterian Church, Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, or to the charity of your choice.
