It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kate Sertic, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Kate passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, February 18, 2024.

Kate was born in Brinje, Croatia on December 11, 1927. She immigrated to Canada with her daughter Mira in 1963 to join her husband Stipe in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Their second daughter, Nancy was born a few years later.

Family was everything to Kate. Her generosity, caring, selflessness, and love was felt by all around her. She adored children. To her grandchildren and many others around her, she was known as Baba. Children and adults alike would never be thirsty or hungry with Baba around. Her door was always open, and her peaceful disposition was a pleasure to be around.

Kate was an avid gardener. Her impressive annual garden helped feed herself, as well as many others around her. She also loved tending to her flowers, ensuring there was a beautiful array of colours surrounding her home every year.

Kate is survived by her daughters Mira (Tom) and Nancy (Ivica); four grandchildren David (Kimberlee), Shaun (Heather), Marina (Mate), Renata (Toni), and four great-grandchildren Madison, Victor, Nina, and Eva. She is also survived by cousin Mikica and family, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives in Croatia.

She was predeceased by her husband Stipe; sisters Mandica and Marija, brother Ivan, mother Marija, and father Ivan.

Kate has resided at Bethammi Nursing Home since October, 2022. We would like to thank all of the staff on the second floor that helped care for her.

Kate's memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. May our Baba rest in eternal peace.

Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Kate Sertic will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 with family and friends gathering in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Croatian Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 1:30pm, officiated by Father Francisco Blazek. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:30pm in the Church.

Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Kate to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Croatian Catholic Church would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
