It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Josephine Cassandra Sagabin Sakchekapo, age 31 years, unexpectedly at home in North Caribou Lake First Nation on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

Josephine was born on July 22, 1993 in Sioux Lookout to Cheryl (nee Matawapit) and Joseph Sakchekapo. She was raised and educated locally in her home community in Weagamow Lake, where she had wonderful jobs as a Cashier in the Northern Store, and as a Teacher's Aide in the School. Josephine enjoyed her work, interacting with customers and was proud to be able to help teach the students, whom she truly loved.

In her free time, Josephine enjoyed doing crafts, particularly threading and was always making bracelets and little gifts to share with family and friends. She also loved baking, cooking and spending time outdoors with those she loved.

Above all else, Josephine's family was her true passion. Time spent with her sons, or hanging out with her brothers made her so happy. She was a fun Auntie to her nieces and nephews and many memories were made with all who knew her. Josephine's sense of humour, kindness and big heart as well as her willingness to always offer help to those in need will never be forgotten. She was a loving mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, auntie, niece and friend, and will be forever missed by all, but will always remain in our hearts.

Josephine is survived by her two sons, Kreedan Sakchekapo-Williams and Kurt Sakchekapo-Tait; her mother Cheryl (John) McCallum; grandparents Maio and Salome “Grace” Matawapit, Greta Sakchekapo and Rose McCallum; siblings Joss Sakchekapo and Dallas (Natasha) Sakchekapo, Lenny (Trina) Sakakeesic and Lyle Sakakeesic, Renee (Brendon) Patawanick, Johnny McCallum, Tyson Guimond and Kristen (Will) McCallum as well as her special niece and goddaughter, Emery Patawanick and special nephew Jonah Roy Patawanick, special niece Nicole Sakchekapo and special nephews Zakai Guimond, Troy Sakcheckapo Jr., Sophie Roundhead and Leonardo (LJ) Roundhead. She is also survived by her aunts Sheila (Mike) Gabrie, Karen Sakchekapo, Celinda Patayash, Yvonne (Anthony) Johnup, Myra (Simon) Chikane, Claudia (Lamar) Matawapit and Clarissa (Dwayne) Matawapit; uncles Caleb Jr. (Nancy) and Leo (Judy) Sakchekapo as well as numerous cousins and extended family.
