Gordon Leroy Scheifele, age 82, resident of Thunder Bay, ON, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital, with family by his side on November 6, 2023. Born on June 22, 1941, in St. Jacob’s, ON. He was raised in Waterloo County and attended Laurier University, Penn State University, Illinois University where he received a Doctorate in Plant Pathology/Field Corn Diseases. Gordon was a Chaplain for four County jails in Illinois, where he founded Onesimus Ministries. In 1981, Gordon and his family moved to Kitchener, ON, where he pursued agricultural research and development. In 2002, Gordon and Gunhild moved to Thunder Bay, ON.
 
Psalm 23, 91, and Philemon 10-16, were Gordon's favorite Bible passages.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Gunhild (nee Albrecht), and four children: David (Kristine), Heidi (Nick), Yvonne (Brian), Jutta (Mark) and seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Siblings: Nelson & Joy Scheifele, Willard & Connie Scheifele, Pearl & Bruce Jutzi. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon is predeceased by parents, biological father Earl David Scheifele, Minerva (Scheifele) Martin (nee Hoffman), and stepfather Onias B. Martin.
 
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of St. Joseph’s 4N Hospice for their exceptional care.
