Gloria Jean Carter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Gloria Jean Carter, at the age of 81 on August 14, 2024 at home.

Gloria was born April 30, 1943, and spent her early years growing up on Mission Island. She met her soulmate and married him July 9, 1966. Tom and Gloria were together for 49 years before he predeceased her August 17, 2015. Mom missed dad very much.

Gloria was very athletic and a a bit of a “tom boy”. Jeans and t-shirt were her daily uniform and no makeup for this lady. She even wanted to wear jeans to her daughter’s wedding but did dress up for the occasion.

Mom played lob ball and broom ball for many years in a ladies league. Mom was a lifetime member of the Royal Order of the Moose (May Street) and spent years participating in the disking league Thursday evenings.

Mom was a stay-at-home mom and kept the house spotless and our tummies full. She could never quite master the tiny cabbage rolls or the perfectly pinched perogies that her mom was famous for.

Mom spent her final years without dad maintaining the family home inside and out. The snow would barely touch the ground and she would be out shovelling – just ask the neighbours! She also loved reading, doing her word search puzzles and anything Elvis related.

Survived by her four children Tracey (Larry) Gavin, Jeffrey (Marlena), Frederick (Kelly), and Michael (Nora), several grandchildren, sister Darcy, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Mike and Julie Biley, brothers David and John, in-laws Fred and Irene Carter, and her granddog Chelsea.

As per Gloria’s wishes, there will be no service. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Happy and smiling and

always content,

Loved and respected wherever

she went

Always thoughtful, willing

and kind

There are the memories she

left behind.
