Mr. Geordi Kakepetum, 71, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre surrounded by loved ones. Geordi was born on Monday, April 14, 1952 in Sandy Lake, ON.

This was the driving force behind his vision for a better tomorrow for the people of the far north. Over the span of 30 years, Geordi’s steady dedication and passion transformed Keewaytinook Okimakanak from a humble beginning, in a small office with only a few staff members, into a multi-faceted corporation with over 220 staff and numerous regional offices. In 2012, Geordi received the Emile Nakogee Leadership Award presented by Nishnawbe Aski Nation recognizing his accomplishments.

Geordi is survived by his children: Barbara and Aaron; grandchildren: Courtney M., Aiden, Zoey, Victoria, Andrew, Courtney W., Shelley and Daniel Jr.; great-grandchildren: Nia and Jordan who he loved more than anything.
