Fedora Tremonti, aged 79, passed away peacefully this week at Thunder Bay Regional hospital, surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her family Vania (Larry) Buosi, Carla, Elio (Nancy), David (Michelle) and grandkids Emily, Alicia, Anthony, Yvan, Nadya, Paolo, James, Xavier, Chloe, extended family, and her beloved pet Bubbles.
Mom was a kind and selfless person who had a special gift of making people feel loved and cared for. She did this by always putting others first, making folks feel safe and relaxed and of course, doting on them as if they were part of the family. With open arms, and a warm welcoming smile, it wasn’t uncommon for mom to foster others, making her home available for as long as they needed. Her life simply centered on others.
To say she adored children would be an understatement. She loved being around children and would embrace children of friends and family as if they were her own. Children loved being with mom, running around the house, picking raspberries from the bushes in the backyard, or helping themselves to treats from the pantry. When out of town children of friends were asked “what would you like to do for vacation”, without fail, visiting Fedora in Thunder Bay would be at the top of the list.
Conversations with relatives and her friends have been difficult. Mom had an indescribable effect on people and folks are surprised and overwhelmed with the news of her passing. Fedora was very private about her battle with illness, primarily because she did not want to burden anyone with worry. You may find comfort in knowing that despite wanting to give in, at times along the way, Fedora never did. Instead, with what energy she had, she met treatment obligations with grace, often making the nurses giggle and laugh with her light hearted quips like “I don’t think you’ll find much in there” (when the nurse was checking her ear with the otoscope). This is the mom and friend that we know.
She will soon be placed beside her late husband Gastone, who she met at English as a second language school, with whom she fell in love, married and devoted her life to. We’re comforted knowing that she is likely already dressed up, and is twirling around on a dance floor somewhere in heaven with dad.
A special thank you to those who have been able to help and support Fedora over the years, helping her in whichever way was needed, from cleaning her driveway or just simply looking out for her. Also, thank you to the countless compassionate care professionals who were always gentle and kind to mom.
Present plans include a private interment for Fedora, as per her wishes. However, the family may plan a celebration of life in the near future. Until then, we’re open to anyone who would like to reach out to Vania, Carla, Elio or David, and share some stories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local chapter of Autism Ontario.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
