August 10, 1940 – March 22, 2025
Mr. Edward Anthony John Wakewich, age 84 years, passed away peacefully with family by his side in Hogarth Riverview Manor, on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Edward was born in Paipoonge Township on August 10, 1940. He was educated locally and had a 35 year career with the MTO until retirement in 1993. Edward met Shirley Margret Dupuis and they were married on May 7, 1966, building a beautiful family and life together for 51 wonderful years until Shirley's passing in 2017. Many winters were spent in Arizona, and time camping in Armstrong, Whitefish and Amberlite was always enjoyed. Edward loved fishing and hunting, and was active in sports, especially Broomball, Baseball and Curling. Edward was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Edward is survived by his son Kevin Wakewich and daughter Suzanne Erven; grandchildren Sarah and Ryan Erven; brothers Ron, Reg, Claude and sister Marie. Numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws from the Wakewich and Dupuis families, and extended family also survive.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley; parents, Olga and Anthony Wakewich; sisters Beatrice, Helen and Hazel; brother Walter Wakewich as well as many in-laws and other relatives.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hogarth Riverview Manor – Unit 4N Iris for their loving care and compassion shown to Dad and our entire family over the last 5 years.
Funeral Services for Edward Wakewich will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 11:00 am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Interment will take place at a later date in Mountainview Cemetery, where Edward will be laid to rest with Shirley.
