It is with great sadness that the family of Denis Lamontagne announce his passing at the age of 65. He left us peacefully at TBRHSC with wife Cindy and parents, Gus and Shirley Lamontagne, by his side in the early morning hours of Friday, June 16, 2023. His wife and son, his parents and siblings spent most of the day and evening on June 15th with him at the hospital sharing stories and memories. Denis was born on February 11, 1958 in Port Arthur.

Denis worked for years in the pulp and paper industry, but his passion was woodworking. He spent many hours creating original designs of jewelry boxes, display shelves and Adirondack chairs. Many of his family, friends and neighbours have some of his treasured pieces in their homes.

Spending time with family and friends was important to Denis. He enjoyed connecting with his friends as well as all of the family events in Pearl.

One very important word that describes Denis is helpful. He liked to help his family, friends, neighbours as well as strangers with tasks when they needed a helping hand. He had a riding lawn mower and would cut the lawn of whoever needed it on his block. The grass in back lane needed to be cut in a particular way according to Denis. When that was done, he was happy. When Denis became sick, his neighbours took over those jobs including his yard. The helper became the helped. He and Cindy appreciated all that they did for them.

Denis was a social butterfly. Cindy said a simple trip to the store was challenging to get in and out because Denis enjoyed talking to everyone whether he knew them or not. She says that “The Denis Show” will be missed.

Survived by his wife Cindy, son Devin and pet cat Tama. Parents Shirley and Gus Lamontagne, siblings Bernie (Bryan), Loretta (Bill), Anita (Bob), Corinne (Dennis) and Marcel (Barb), brothers-in-law Bill (Julie) and Ted, sister-in-law Lori (Mark), godmother auntie Pat and uncle Lawrence as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Gerry and Baldy Ylinen, grandparents Emile and Annie Parisien, Rolande and Gedeon Lamontagne, aunt Dorothy Parisien, brother-in-law Bruce Gibson, Cindy’s nanny Glady Guerard.

Special thank you to Dr. Sun, Dr. DelPaggio, Dr. Ramchandar, the nurses, staff and paramedics. The amazing nurses and staff at the Cancer Clinic, especially Laura as well as the nurses at Bay Shore, especially Ike.

Funeral Services for Denis will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Loretto Church, 290 Grenville Avenue, presided by Fr. Francis Pudicherry.

Donations in memory of Denis may be made to the TBRHSC – Northern Cancer Fund, OLOL Elevator Fund or a charity of choice.
