It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that the family of Brenda (Hoard) Gillis announce her passing on March 25, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Brenda will be forever remembered by her two daughters, Jaden Ciotucha and Darian Ciotucha (Perevet) and her granddaughter Athena whom she adored. She also leaves behind her mother and father Lynn and Darlene Hoard two sisters Rhonda (Ken) Adduono and Bobbi-Lynn (Peter) Isnor and nephews Austin (Megan) Adduono (Presley), Keanu (Olivia) Adduono (Jett, Ayla) Mackenzie Isnor and Zachary Isnor who all held a special place in her heart. She will also be remembered by aunts and uncles Rhea Johnson (Bill Smith), Sharol Bilodeau; Cindy and Ron Stuart; Dennis and Rita Hoard, Dave and Danila Hoard and numerous cousins.

Brenda was born on February 2, 1972 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She graduated from Westgate High School and Confederation College as a dental hygienist, a career she loved and excelled at.

Brenda had a zest for life she was kind, loving, funny, great memory for detail, loved to dance, travel, go camping with family and fishing with her dad. But most of all she loved being a mom and grandma. She was happiest when she was with Jaden and Darian and little Athena she loved them unconditionally. They brought her so much joy.

Brenda faced her disease with adversity and positivity never complaining. She was ready to face each challenge and treatment if it meant more time with her love ones.

We would like to thank all her friends who supported her especially Lora, Chrystal, Linda, Dinah and Joan. Also a very special thank you to Rick Gillis for his continued support during her illness.

We would also like to thank Dr Chan for his years of dedication, Dr. Ramchander, Dr. Simpson and Dr. Ward and the doctors and nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Thunder Bay Regional. A very special thank you to Dr. Franchi for his years of caring for Brenda and her family.

There will be a celebration of life for Brenda on Monday March 31, 2025 from 11:00am - 2:00pm at the Neebing Road House.

In lieu of flowers a donation of your choice can be made in her name to the Cancer Centre at TBRHSC or to an animal shelter of your choice.
