The family of the late Anneke Hendrika Tempelman (nee Meurs) announce her passing into glory in her ninety-ninth year on January 5, 2025. Born March 30, 1925 to Jan and Hendrika Meurs in Doetinchem, Netherlands. Mom embarked on her nursing career during the war and vividly remembered Bevrijdingsdag (Liberation Day) in Holland. She then went on to be a travelling nurse on a hospital ship to Indonesia. Prior to her immigration Mom’s travels brought her to many countries including Egypt, Yemen, mountaineering in Austria, Switzerland and many more destinations.
Mom immigrated to Canada and on July 24, 1959 married Derk Jan Tempelman and together they raised a family of eight children.
A lifelong servant of Christ and a pillar of faith, she encouraged many in their walk with the Lord. Admired for her talents in sewing, embroidery, knitting, and crochet work. Mom loved to read and is also remembered for her cooking especially when Dad would hunt wild game and Mom would turn it into a delectable meal. She was a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan, enjoyed boxing and would have a good chuckle watching old-school wrestling.
Mom had a good life and was blessed with many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong adherent of the Reformed faith and instilled the Christian virtue of kindness in all of her children (Galatians 5: 22-23).
Predeceased by husband Derk Jan (January 1987), parents Hendrik-Jan and Hendrika Meurs, siblings Gezina and Hank Houwers, Henk and Helen Meurs, Jan and Gerda Meurs, Father and Mother in-law Hendrik and Aaltje Tempelman, son-in-law Hank Veurink, grandchildren Philip Tempelman and Daphne Janssens, brothers-in-law Gerrit Tempelman, Louis VanRamshorst and two great-grandchildren.
Anneke is survived by Richard Tempelman (Bradley, Adam and their Mother Annette Tempelman), Linda and Frans Heerema (Kristen, Jordan, Kaleigh, Jared, Kurtis), Alice and Hank Veurink (Cheryl, Nancy, Kevin, Andrew, Rachel), Martin and Corinne Tempelman (Matthew, Kyla, Samuel), Donald Tempelman, Rita and Darin Guzzell (Meagan, Celeste, Paige, Bryce, Aidan), Helen and Gerald Janssens (Sarah, Chantel, Tarina, Dexter, Gillian, Cameron, Benjamin, Reuben, Manoah, Maisie), Tony Tempelman, spouses of the aforementioned and twenty-five great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her in-laws – Henny VanRamshorst, Willy Tempelman, Hank and Hendrika Tempelman, John and Teeny Tempelman. and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the PSW’s, nurses, Doctors and neighbours in assisting with Mom’s care.
Visitation will be held at the United Reformed Church (URC) – Hwy 130 on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 7 – 9 pm for those wishing to extend their condolences. The funeral service will commence Friday, January 10, 2025 at 10:00 am at the United Reformed Church with a reception to follow. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery will follow on a later date.
