It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Andrew Kontio, aged 36, on December 29, 2024. Andrew was a passionate guitar and piano player, excellent cook and loved his family and animals especially Breezer. He loved fishing on Arrow Lake. Everyone will always remember his delicious suolakala (salt fish) sandwiches. Andy was well schooled in law and security, bio molecular science, fish and wildlife. He lived out west and down east but always came home to Thunder Bay. He has had various jobs the last being Oliver Paipoonge Township. He is survived by his parents Henry and Shelley, brother Shane, grandparents Stan and Marilyn McMillen, aunts and uncles Kaisa and Allen Swerhun, Vivian and Glenn Morin, Colleen and Harold Maki, cousins Aimee Morin, Sarah Morin, Leah Jackson (David), Ted Maki, Heather Maki, Mekaal Swerhun, Chris Swerhun. He was predeceased by his grandparents Papa Arvi Kontio 1988 and Mummu Paula Kontio 2023. A Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2024 at Community Baptist Church in Murillo. In honor of Andrew, donations can be made at CMHA if desired.
