It is with great sadness that the family of Albina Veltri (nee Guarasci) announce her peaceful passing on July 31, 2023, surrounded by her adoring family.
Albina was born in Mangone, Italy, on July 9, 1931. She bravely immigrated to Canada in 1950 to establish a new life in Port Arthur, ON. It is there where she met and wed the love of her life, 'her Johnny'. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared many passions. Albina worked hard her whole life and poured her love into her home and family. She was also proud to be employed outside of the home during a time when many homemakers did not. Many family members have fond memories of going for lunch with her at the Zellers in the County Fair Mall, where she was proud to say she worked in the kitchen. Albina’s home was a reflection of her hard work and dedication to those she loved. Family and friends would sit down at her table and enjoy beautiful homemade meals, most of the ingredients coming from the backyard garden. She was an amazing cook, making everything from pasta dishes with homemade sauce, to pies and tarts and everything in between. Sunday dinners were especially important to her. She was her happiest when surrounded by family and good food. Albina was also very proud of her garden. She was often found tending to all of her vegetables, fruits and flowers. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a most devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. When little ones were around she was in her happy place, spoiling them with love, hugs and sweet treats.
Albina will be lovingly remembered by her three sons Nick (Susan), Lorenzo (Susie) and Sam (Heather). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Liana (Mike), Matthew, Jason, Colin (Melissa), Genevieve (Jordan), Cole, and step-grandchildren Nicole (Derrick), Brandon (Stacey), Kristi, Kelli (Chris) and Kari (Dan). Also left behind are her many great-grandchildren; Albi, Johnny, Odin, Alister, Henry, Isaac, Alice, Danika, Lauren, Jermaine, Brooklyn, Paige, Kayla, Max, Landyn, Chase, Allie, Peyton and Jasper. As well as her sister-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, who held a special place in her heart.
She will also be dearly missed by her very special daughters-in-law Michelle, Colleen, and Giannina.
Albina was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, John, as well as her mother and father, Raffalia and Salvatore Guarasci, and her four brothers and two sisters.
A private family service will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dew Drop Inn would be greatly appreciated.
