WAWA — The township's fire department is hosting an open house on Thursday to allow those interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter the chance to learn about the station and meet the team.
Fire Chief Kevin Sabourin said that it’s a great chance to get to know potential candidates that may want to apply to become a volunteer firefighter and answer any questions they have that they're wondering about the role before they apply.
“So not only responding to emergencies, but we're a group that the Community counts on to volunteer to help out in different events,” said Sabourin.
“For example, Winter Carnival, we do the July 1st fireworks, and we do the Christmas parade and help them organize that and anything else that, for example, schools will come on [field] trips, or they'll ask us to bring fire trucks to them so they can view them, so, there's a lot of community interaction.”
The fire department will be actively recruiting during the open house and those in the community who are interested are encouraged to attend and apply.
For those who may not be able to make it out to the open house but may still wish to find out more about becoming a part of the team Sabourin said he’s ready for any questions you may have and can contact him at his town hall office by phone at 1 (705) 856 – 2244 ext. 228
