GREENSTONE — Two people have died in a transport crash on Highway 11 between Longlac and Hearst Saturday morning.

Two transport trucks were involved in the fatal collision, which occurred before 8:30 a.m.

The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.

There was also a passenger in each vehicle. Both passengers sustained injuries and were transported to the local hospital, according to an Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

OPP officers from the Greenstone detachment, along with fire and emergency medical services responded to the collision. The North West Region OPP's traffic incident management enforcement team is investigation the incident.

The highway has been closed in both directions since 8:29 a.m. Updates on highway closures are available through Ontario 511.

Correction: An earlier version of this story cited an incorrect statement from police that officers from the OPP's Kenora detachment had responded to the collision.
