CALGARY—Truckers and organizations supporting freedoms and rights have planned what is being called, “Freedom Convoy 2022”. This event is to highlight the protest by groups of truckers, in particular, who are fighting the restrictions placed on them due to COVID-19.
These restrictions include the wearing of masks mandate, providing vaccination passes, and it aligns itself with the recent announcement by the Federal Government that all truckers entering Canada must show proof of vaccine.
The Convoy began in Prince Rupert, B.C., travelled through Edmonton, Alta, on Jan. 23, continued on to Regina, SK, on Jan. 24, and from there is heading to Kenora and Thunder Bay Jan. 25-26; arriving in Thunder Bay, Arthur Street, on Jan. 26, at 4 p.m.
From Thunder Bay, Ontario, the Convoy will truck its way across Northern Ontario through Terrace Bay, Manitouwadge, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, and is scheduled to arrive in Ottawa on Jan. 28 at the Antrim Truckstop at 6 p.m.
On Jan. 9, 2022 Prime Minister Trudeau and the Transportation, Health and Public Safety Ministers announced that Canada’s initial policy requiring truckers coming into Canada must be fully vaccinated, or face PCR testing and quarantine, will still be in effect.
As a result, this Freedom Convoy was organized and is heading to Parliament Hill. The goal of this group is to end the mandate that the Government has announced will be enforced at Canadian border crossings.
