GERALDTON – A traffic stop in Geraldton led to drug trafficking charges being laid against a 27-year-old and a 36-year-old from the Northern Ontario community.
According to a release issued on Tuesday by the Ontario Provincial Police, officers on Feb. 17, at about 8:30 p.m., observed a motor vehicle with no taillights illuminated on Main Street.
A traffic stop was initiated and further investigation revealed the motorist was a suspended driver and the passenger was wanted by OPP.
Both the driver and passenger were arrested and police allege they found 240 grams of suspected methamphetamine, along with Canadian currency and items associated with drug trafficking.
A 27-year-old Geraldton man was charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking in methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and two counts of failure to comply with probation.
A 36-year-old Geraldton woman was charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking in methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 driving while under suspension, driving without a proper rear light, failing to surrender a motor vehicle permit and failing to surrender an insurance card.
The man was remanded into custody after a bail hearing while the woman was released from custody with a future court date of March 20 in Geraldton.
