HORNEPAYNE — Since the previous emergency evacuation notice on June 17, the Township of Hornepayne is advising residents that the soccer field located at Hornepayne Elementary and Secondary school, located at 162 Fourth Avenue has been designated as an approved Emergency Evacuation Site to be used for medical evacuation services for the duration of the Airfield Rehabilitation at the Hornepayne Municipal Airport.

In their statement the municipality states that, “This project will leave the airport runway unusable for a period of approximately six weeks, affecting Medevac services. The temporary Helipad will be available day and night (24/7) to serve those patients needing emergency transfer,” added the municipality.

Residents were also told that the site will not be used for regular daily services, rather services will be limited. But, in order to protect residents, the emergency services must be ready and available.

Furthermore, they indicated that since the Helipad Site is the official, certified by Ornge Air Ambulance service provider, site—the site is off limits to the public. The municipality emphasized, “This site needs to remain functional.”

The Algoma District School Board was recognized and thanked by the municipality for its quick response to the request to use their site and Ornge for helping to make this plan work.

The Township of Hornepayne, Hornepayne Community Hospital, Algoma District Paramedic Services, and AVIA NG partnered together to formulate and initiate this plan.
