RED ROCK — The township of Red Rock is saying goodbye to one of its town councillors.

At the township’s last regular council meeting, Nancy Gladun submitted her resignation from council effective June 30. The rest of council and Mayor Darquise Robinson accepted Gladun’s resignation and thanked her for her efforts in the community.

Gladun spoke to Dougall Media and explained she needed to move closer to her children and grandchildren in Thunder Bay.

“It’s definitely been bittersweet to leave Red Rock. It’s been my home for over 33 years,” she said.

She also thanked the mayor, CAO Mark Figliomeni, and council for their camaraderie.

“I’ve talked to them. It’s been wonderful working with them for the short term I was on council. (They’re) a group of really nice people and I think they’re headed in a good direction. Mark – the CAO – is doing a great job. I have every confidence that this council is going to do well,” she said.

Figliomeni said it was a pleasure to work with Gladun and she will be sorely missed.

“She was a big piece of Red Rock council as well as administration over the years. Personally, I know council is going to miss her and I’m going to miss her. We wish her nothing but the best in the future – and I know she feels the same way and wishes nothing but the best for the township of Red Rock,” Figliomeni said.

Gladun’s seat on council will be vacant as of July 1.

Council moved to accept applications for the position starting on July 2 – which is when the application package will be made available to residents – and they will continue accepting applications until July 10 at 4 p.m.
