Summer Beaver man facing aggravated assault charge

A man suffered non-life threatening injuries, say police.

SUMMER BEAVER – An individual is facing several charges, including aggravated assault after an incident in Summer Beaver First Nation on Thursday.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers received a call for service regarding reports of an injured male, who was believed to have been the victim of an assault.

An adult male had been sleeping in their home when a male suspect entered and assaulted the victim with a blunt object, learned police.

The victim received treatment at the community nursing station. The exact extent of the injuries is unknown at this time but police said they were not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect was identified and located, then taken into custody.

Police say the victim and accused are known to each other.

The accused has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, and failing to comply with a probation order.

After a court appearance on Friday, the accused was released with conditions and a future court date.
