Sugar and slime at the Manitouwadge Skating Club Halloween party

Over 120 costumed kids of all ages were welcomed into the friendly surroundings for the Manitouwadge Skating Club Halloween party.

MANITOUWADGE — There were plenty of fun things to do, see, eat, and enjoy at the Manitouwadge Skating Club Halloween party on Sunday afternoon.

Over 120 costumed kids of all ages were welcomed into the friendly surroundings of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church basement to play games, create and colour Halloween pictures and crafts, and more.

The sensory table, with its mock eyeballs, brains, spider legs and ghost poop, was a big hit, but it was the slime table, where kids got the chance to make ooey, gooey messes out of glue and paints, that was the hands-down favourite.

Another popular feature was the face painting booth where talented volunteers applied skin-safe makeup to create colourful images of everything from animal faces to super heroes. There was a photo booth where the whole family could pose for a selfie, and pumpkins and costumes were auctioned off to raise funds for the club.

The party-goers feasted on popcorn, cotton candy, chips, candy, and soft drinks. Pizza was donated by Audrey’s restaurant, as was all the baking and other goodies contributed by the skating club’s board members.

At the end of the party, kids got one final chance at some fun by taking a swing at a big pumpkin piñata with a baseball bat. It took quite a few tries, but eventually the pumpkin burst open and candy spilled out onto the floor. A mad, chaotic dash ensued as the children sprung forward to scoop up the goodies, but in the end, every child got their share.

The Manitouwadge Skating Club is brand new in town and has some exciting classes and events being planned for the 2022-23 season. They had originally planned to begin the programming on November 1st, but due to the unseasonably warm weather, there is a delay in the ice making process at the arena. They will be hosting a pop-up shop that day, however. You can visit them at the rec centre from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will be skating and dance attire from Flair Athletics for sale, and orders will be taken for official club jackets.
