Schreiber house fire a total loss

When firefighters arrived from Schreiber and Terrace Bay, “the house was fully involved -- with flames through the roof and windows.”

SCHREIBER -- Last night firefighters were called to the 200 block of Brunswick Street in Schreiber for a home that was fully engulfed in flames.

A neighbour woke up the man who lived there to get him out of the house.

The occupant was not badly injured in the fire. Unfortunately his dog did not make it out.

The man was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. The neighbour was treated for second-degree burns.

When firefighters arrived from Schreiber and Terrace Bay, “the house was fully involved -- with flames through the roof and windows,” said Schreiber Fire Chief Jan Morrison, describing it as "a total loss."

Firefighters received the call at 11:17 p.m. last night and were on the scene until 3 p.m. today.

Morrison said he believes the fire was started from unattended cooking.

Four trucks responded to the blaze with 16 firefighters.
