MANITOUWADGE -- A registration and information night was held at the Manitouwadge Rec Centre on Tuesday night. Interested residents got the chance to chat with club and event organizers, and sign up for their favourite sports and pastimes.

Bethany Pentecostal Chapel – Last week, the church family welcomed interim pastor Gary Burt, who will minister to the flock until the board is able to find a permanent replacement for Pastor Peter Ruel, who moved to Timmins Pentecostal Church earlier this summer. Regular Church services are Sunday at 10:30. For the young members of the congregation, Kid’s Connection and Youth starts up this week for junior kindergarten to Grade 5, and youths from Grade 6 and up. Manitouwadge Curling Club – This fun sport will be starting up soon! There’s interest in a season kick-off funspiel, as well as various leagues and tournaments throughout the season. Their annual ladies’ bonspiel takes place in February, and a stick, as well as a mixed tournament, is planned for March. They will be holding their AGM in November, where the plans for all these leagues and bonspiels will be discussed. The Golden Age Club – This 50+ senior’s social group is starting the season off with their annual General member’s meeting on Oct. 5, and a Potluck dinner on Oct. 6. This Potluck dinner is a regular event, taking place on the first Thursday of the month. Other regular activities, including sewing, quilting, darts, Xbox bowling and pool are scheduled throughout the week. Two parties are scheduled for this month, a ‘Queen’s High Tea’ party in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II on Sept.19 at 1 p.m., and a Member’s Birthday Party on the 26. Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association – Calling all players, coaches, trainers and managers! Sign up for the 2022/23 season through the Hockey Canada Registry. Costs for players are $260 for youths under 13, and $310 for players up to age 18. Manitouwadge Public Library – In addition to their regular programming, the library will be hosting a monthly Dungeons and Dragons game for youth, aged 10 to 18. A pre-selected ‘Dungeon’ will be played, with the opportunity for the kids to become rangers, druids and knights, at least in their imaginations! Manitouwadge Skating Club - The Manitouwadge Skating Club, in partnership with Thunder Bay Figure Skating Club, offers a variety of programming for skaters at all levels and experience. Their programs are taught by professional coaches certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NNCP). Skating is a fun, safe form of fitness and can be part of a healthy life style. Wado Kai Karate – Wado Kai, which means ‘the way of peace and harmony,' is a Japanese Karate style, and Jennifer Gray, who recently moved to Manitouwadge from the Niagara region, is testing the waters to see if there is enough interest to start bi-weekly classes at the Rec Centre.
