Passenger sustained serious injuries following alleged DUI

The driver charged in the collision and a pedestrian also sustained minor injuries, say police.

BIIGTIGONG — One person was seriously injured in a collision in Biigtigong Nishnaabeg last month, according to police.

Anishinabek Police Service confirmed on Tuesday that officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at about 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 24. In an email to Dougall Media, police said officers observed a Black Ford F150 that had struck a black Dodge Ram and the front entrance to the Biigtigong Health Centre.

A passenger inside the F150 sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash, said police, while the driver and a pedestrian sustained minor injuries.

Police allege that the driver had been consuming alcohol and failed a roadside breath test.

The 59-year-old Biigtigong Nishnaabeg man was arrested and faces charges of impaired and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, as well as driving while prohibited.

He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

Police did not identify the driver.

The Anishinabek Police Service urge the public to never drive when drinking alcohol or consuming drugs and to plan for alternative transportation or overnight accommodations.
