Over $40,000 worth of drugs seized in Marathon

Three people were charged after a vehicle was searched on Monday.

MARATHON – Three people from Marathon have been charged after illicit drugs were found in a vehicle on Monday.

Officers from the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police detachment were dispatched to a vehicle that was stuck along a bush road off Highway 17 on Monday afternoon.

Suspected cocaine and methamphetamine pills were revealed during a search of the vehicle, police say.

The officers on scene then engaged the Marathon OPP Community Street Crime Unit to assist in the investigation.  

A total of 320 methamphetamine pills, 1,110 speed pills, 18 grams of heroin, more than two pounds of cocaine and $995 in Canadian currency were seized in the investigation, according to police.

A 54-year-old was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of methamphetamine for trafficking.

A 33-year-old was charged with possession cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of methamphetamine for trafficking.

The two suspects were held in-custody for a bail hearing that was held on Tuesday.

A 35-year-old was charged with possession of property obtained by crime and possession of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

The suspect was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 16.
