GREENSTONE — Provincial police are urging the person who captured dash camera footage of a dangerous pass on a Northwestern Ontario highway to provide the video.
Recently, a driver uploaded a dashcam video to the popular Facebook page Skilled Truckers Canada. The footage shows a transport truck illegally passing two commercial vehicles as they approached an upcoming turn on Highway 11.
OPP Const. Matt Foster said a concerned citizen notified the police about the video. and is asking the driver that took the dashcam footage to help with the investigation.
“We are encouraging the driver that did catch this on their dash cam to please contact the OPP to provide the dash cam footage as it would help investigators further in the investigation,” said Foster.
If caught, the transport driver could be charged with the provincial offence of careless driving and unsafe passing. The driver would pay significant fines and obtain six demerit points.
"Something like this could be considered as dangerous driving, which is a criminal charge and with that has the possibility of having a criminal record as well as a driving prohibition,” Foster said.
Foster wants the public to consider these types of driving behaviours as emergencies that could result in catastrophic outcomes.
“If you do see something like this on the road, please don't hesitate to call 911. This is an emergency. Please don't feel like you're burdening our dispatchers and our police officers out there on the road by calling this kind of stuff in because this is extremely dangerous and something like this could have resulted in death,” said Foster.
