SCHREIBER – As of 3:20 p.m., the Municipality of Schreiber states that the OPP has cleared the area in which an old military explosive ordnance was found on Ontario Street.
Residents are now able to return to their homes and the Township would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding during this event.
Earlier this morning, Schreiber OPP asked evacuating residents from their homes and businesses.
According to the municipality, an explosive device was found on Ontario Street.
OPP requests residents to evacuate their homes and businesses on Erie Street, Ontario Street, Manitoba Street, Quebec Street and Winnipeg Street around the east end of Ontario Street.
The public was also asked to stay clear of the area.
OPP Northwest Region said to be aware of the increased police presence due to an ongoing investigation.
Police and OPP Explosives Disposal Unit are working to recover and dispose of an old military ordnance.
The township has opened the Recreation Community Centre for residents who need shelter while this incident is resolved.
