One person dies in Marathon fire

Marathon OPP is investigating a fire in the Town of Marathon that has taken one life.

The Office of the Fire Marshall is investigating after a fire claimed a life in Marathon on Friday.

MARATHON – Marathon OPP is reporting that one individual has been pronounced dead after a structure fire on Sund Crescent Friday morning.

The fire has been fully extinguished and the scene is currently being held.

Members of the Marathon OPP Detachment, Marathon Fire Department, and Superior North EMS responded to a report of a structure fire on Sund Crescent around 11 a.m., the OPP said in a release.
 
Upon the fire being extinguished, EMS pronounced an individual deceased.

Community members can expect a heightened police presence in the area of Sund Crescent while the investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall is being conducted.
