UPDATE: Lockdown lifted at Nipigon Public Schools, one in custody

The lockdown at Nipigon-Red Rock District High School and George O’Neill Public School has been lifted and OPP have one individual in custody.

NIPIGON — The lockdown at Nipigon-Red Rock District High School and George O’Neill Public School has been lifted.

According to OPP, "one individual is in custody as a result of a potential threat."

The OPP recommended the early dismissal of all students at the Nipigon-Red Rock District High School and that the school cancel all extra-curricular activities.

According to the Superior-Greenstone District School Board, at approximately 1:20 p.m, OPP placed a hold and secure in place at Nipigon-Red Rock District High School and George O’Neill Public School after several threats were made against the schools.

Superior-Greenstone District School Board said they will remain in lockdown until OPP is finished searching the buildings.

Law enforcement is present at both schools as a precaution.

At this time, both schools are closed to the public.

Parents, guardians and caregivers should not go to the schools until further notice.
