NIPIGON — The driver of an ATV faces several charges following an OPP investigation into a recent collision on Highway 11.

According to police, the all-terrain vehicle collided on Jan. 2 with a truck, towing a large sign, that had just pulled onto the highway from the Lake Helen reserve.

The truck was struck from behind.

An off-duty Lake Helen police officer detained the driver of the ATV and notified OPP.

A 26-year-old resident of the reserve was subsequently charged with assaulting a peace officer, impaired driving, and operating a vehicle while having a blood alcohol content over the legal limit.

The man was released from custody with a future court date in Nipigon.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
