NIPIGON -- OPP confirmed it was mechanical issues that forced a plane to land on Highway 11 north of Nipigon late last week.
In a release issued on Monday by the OPP, police said they are investigating the circumstances behind the crash, which took place at about 5 p.m. on Friday, about 20 kilometres north of the junction with Highway 11/17.
The small, single-engine plane, as a result of the mechanical issues, had to make an emergency landing on the highway. The pilot was not injured and there was minimal damage to the plane. When officers arrived, the plane was parked in the middle of the highway, traffic halted and lined up in both directions.
The Transportation Safety Board was notified of the crash. The plane was then moved off the highway and the highway reopened shortly afterwards.
