CHAPLEAU— Residents of the Municipality of Chapleau were updated last week on the “rebuild” of their community’s recreation centre.
Chapleau’s Mayor Michael Lavesque, recognized the importance of Chapleau Recreation Centre to community activities and reaffirmed that renovations are expected to be completed in the coming months.
This project is a result of funds made available through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. In 2021, the Municipality of Chapleau received confirmation that their application for a $150,000 Resilient Community Fund, from OTF, was successful. Renovations to Chapleau’s Recreation Centre’s washrooms, replacement of flooring, installation of hands-free equipment, and the overall upgrading and modernization of this facility were made possible by this grant.
MMP Michael Mantha, reacted to the announcement of this funding by commenting on the need for continuous support of youth, families, seniors and communities in order to make life better, and promote community growth. "What could be better for community strength and development than investing in Chapleau’s Recreation Centre. Bringing people together provides incredible opportunities for both physical and mental health, and promotes community pride, spirit and support"
The grant was developed by OTF to help the non-profit sector rebuild and recover from the impact of COVID-19. With work expected to be completed in the next coming months, the mayor acknowledged the government for their support of the Municipality of Chapleau. “Our arena is central to our community activities. Modernization of this facility is greatly appreciated.”
