MARATHON — Town officials hope work to revitalize Pebble Beach could start in the next week months.
Marc Paris, Marathon's waterworks and operations manager, presented an update to council regarding the Pebble Beach revitalization project at the council meeting on Monday.
Council had requested a washroom facility and electrical conduits added to the project, which have now been incorporated.
Paris said the washroom is designed for accessibility and the aesthetic will complement the Pebble Beach theme with rubber pebble flooring.
During February, the project is finalizing the design process and acquiring the permits and documentation for construction.
Paris said from there, they will be “scheduling to put out the building permit by March 2023.”
Once the building permit is in place, construction on the Pebble Beach Revitalization project will begin in early April, pending weather conditions. Paris expects the completion of the project to be September 15.
Paris said that while construction is taking place, sections of Pebble Beach will be closed and advised council that the closure will affect the tourism season.
Paris also states that parking at Pebble Beach is going to be deemed a construction site and parking at that site will be removed.
However, Paris recommended that areas of Pebble Beach not under construction be highlighted through various forms of social media and the municipal website’s tourism page.
“We have the new Group of Seven trail going up to the hill. That’s going to impact that area. We are going to put some small fencing up and a small trail will still allow people to use that trail,” said Paris.
Two other locations Paris is looking at showcasing are Stevens Avenue and Winton Street.
“Those are the two areas we are going to put on the website and our social media areas to let the public know when tourists are coming into town. There is still some great view. Here are two other locations that you can take a view during our construction of the project.”
