MARATHON — Municipal staff have a new way to water their plants.

The town announced that their watering arm attachment is now in operation, showing a picture of it in use this week.

The watering arm attaches to the town’s MT7 model tractor, which staff will use to water planter boxes along Peninsula Road.

Instead of having multiple staff manually watering these planter boxes, the attachment will reduce labour hours requiring only one person to operate the tractor.

The arm flexibility allows the operator to easily manoeuvre into position for watering. The 80-gallon rear-mounted tank will allow the planter's boxes to be watered more frequently, helping to preserve the beauty of Peninsula Road.

“Community beautification is a staple of our municipal parks and recreation department in spring and summer. This new equipment adds to our ability to do that while reducing our overall operating cost,” said Chief Administration Officer Daryl Skworchinski.

The capital cost of the watering arm attachment was $22,000.
