Marathon OPP seized nearly $14,000 worth of illicit drugs

Four people are facing multiple drug charges following a traffic stop in Marathon.

Marathon OPP seized a total street value of approximately $14,000 in the suspected illicit including cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, and oxycodone.

MARATHON — Police seized thousands of suspected illicit drugs and made multiple arrests.

According to OPP Northwest Region, on Sept. 8, officers with the Marathon OPP Detachment were notified by the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) of an individual near Highway 17 and Peninsula Road known to have an outstanding warrant.

APS members performed a traffic stop and arrested the driver after confirming the warrant.

When Marathon OPP took over the investigation, a search revealed the individual had suspected cocaine.

Police also found an open can of liquor, which prompted them to search the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed a significant amount of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, oxycodone, multiple items related to drug trafficking and open liquor.

Subsequently, all vehicle passengers were arrested, and all contraband was seized.

The total street value of the suspected illicit substances is approximately $14,000.

As a result of the investigation, four people were arrested and charged.

A 35-year-old from Marathon was charged with three counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking illicit substances and possession of over 30 grams of dried cannabis in a public place.

A 34-year-old from Terrace Bay is charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking illicit substances, possession of over 30 grams of dried cannabis in a public place, and failure to comply with a probation order.

 A 35-year-old from Schreiber is charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking illicit substances and possession of over 30 grams of dried cannabis in a public place.

A 28-year-old from Pays Plat is charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking illicit substances and possession of over 30 grams of dried cannabis in a public place.

The 35-year-old was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody. The accused is scheduled to appear before the court on September 11.

All other accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the court of Justice in Oct.
