MARATHON — Following the closure of the municipal swimming pool, the town has provided information about its refund policy.

Due to the total estimated cost of repair to Port Hole Pool exceeding $5 million, the town had no choice but to permanently shut down for health and safety reasons.

In the aftermath of the closure, Marathon’s community services department has announced its annual membership refund policy. The policy will allow patrons to receive a refund on their remaining months for those who have a membership.

However, people who have purchased a drop-in pass punch card are not eligible for a refund, but they can redeem their passes for other fitness programs.

Additionally, single and family swim passes are also not eligible for a refund either. Those passes can be exchanged for a recreational fun card for the equivalent amount that can be used for fees at the arena, golf course, or other fitness programs.

Several residents have voiced their concerns on the town’s Facebook page, voicing outrage and confusion at the refund policy, calling “unfair,” and asking the town to provide them with information about an equivalent program while other commenters stated that they purchased passes specifically for the pool, rather than other recreation programs.
