MANITOUWADGE -- Manitouwadge Volunteer Fire Department is sharing some helpful holiday tips.

Fire officials are reminding residents the importance of installing and testing carbon monoxide alarms, which is a safety device that can alert homeowners of a carbon monoxide leak helping residents escape from a potential life-threatening situation.

According to the department's Facebook post, carbon monoxide is an invisible, odourless gas that can quickly kill you.

Install alarms outside all sleeping areas and test them monthly, especially if your home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage.

Carbon monoxide alarms don't last forever, so make sure to replace them according to manufacturer's instructions.
