MANITOUWADGE -- Get ready for some fun, food and science this weekend, as the Manitouwadge Community Committee hosts a variety of free events.
Summer Kick Off schedule – Saturday, June 25 from 1 to 4 p.m.
1 – 4 p.m. - Science North’s Great Canadian Roadshow is bringing their ‘Think Play Learn’ workshops to Manitouwadge. Get ready to discover a world of adventure with this hands-on, fun approach to science education. Kids of all ages will get the chance to explore science through experiments, demonstrations and workshops, and even get a take home bag of interesting and educational activities to explore on your own.
1 – 4 p.m. - Bouncy Castles and Free BBQ, courtesy of Barrick: Who doesn’t love free hot dogs and hamburgers? And Bouncy Castles! What a treat.
1 – 4 p.m. - Outdoor Vendor’s market: Come visit the outdoor vendors market.
1 – 4 p.m. - Manitouwadge Public Library presents the TD Reading Club: This reading club is Canada’s biggest bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests and abilities. The Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way. This year we’re challenging readers of all ages to track their pages. Submit them by Sept. 2 and see if we can beat last year’s total of 136,000 pages! Visit Beth and her staff at the library table, located in the vendor’s market.
2 p.m. - Fun Run: Long time Manitouwadge residents may remember the ‘Turn off your screen’ week Fun Run. Whilst turning off your screen is always a great idea, especially during ParticipACTION Community Better challenge (we’re in 12th place out of 392 communities!) it’s not a prerequisite for the event. Anyone can participate. There are no entry fees; just run, jog, walk or stroll the route which starts at the Rec Centre at 2 p.m., winds down Manitou to Adjala, and Ohsweken, then finishes off back at the Rec Centre. Joining the fun will be firefighters and OPP officers wearing their gear! Don’t forget your water bottle.
4: p.m. - Skateboard Park Grand Opening: The Manitouwadge Community Services are pleased to be partnering with the Manitouwadge Skatepark Committee for the long-awaited Manitouwadge Skateboard Park grand opening. Skateboarders from Thunder Bay Skatepark Coalition will be putting on a show for spectators. Bring your board or scooter and join in the fun! There will be special guests and prizes. Come celebrate with us.
It’s shaping up to be a fun Saturday afternoon, so be sure to come on down to the Rec Centre, and fill your mind with science and reading, and treat your body to some burgers and exercise. And bouncy castles.
