MARATHON – Work will soon start on the new long-term care facility in Marathon.

Adam Brown, chief executive officer of North of Superior Healthcare Group, says the equipment residents are seeing in the parking lot on the hospital grounds are the very early stages of the new build.

“This is really the unofficial start of our long-term care home construction. Our main contractors, CGV developments, some of their projects in town are starting to wrap up. So you'll see office buildings and fences and the like, starting to show up in our parking lot,” Brown said in an interview with Dougall Media.

The long-term care home is part of the Ontario government’s promise to build over 58,000 long-term care beds in communities across the province.

The new facility will have a ‘modernized’ feel with dining and activity areas, lounges, and a cultural space that will accommodate ceremonial and healing practices for Indigenous residents.

Brown said construction will begin at the end of April and be completed by late May 2025 with the first residents arriving in time for the summer.
